FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you give free estimates?

If you are interested in a water feature and can send us a picture of the approximate area you would like it in, we can give you a ballpark estimate over the phone. Otherwise, if it is necessary to travel to your site to complete the estimate, we will charge a fee of $150 which is refundable when you sign on to do the project.

What is an average budget for landscaping?

As a general rule of thumb, landscaping should cost around 5%-10% of your property (house and land), or more, depending on your vision and requirements. In-ground pools and outdoor kitchens can surpass that number before even planting one tree. One way to approach a seemingly over-the-top potential estimate is by prioritizing your projects using a Master Plan. A Master Plan will allow you to envision the finalized project while giving you a roadmap for phased installation. Ask us about doing a Master Plan for your property!

Do you have a minimum job cost?

Yes. Our minimum job cost is $5000.

What takes place during a consultation?

Consultations are made by appointment, preferably on a Friday. We travel to your property and spend approximately an hour discussing your project, offering suggestions and helping to firm up your ideas/ project requirements. If you are interested in obtaining an estimate, we return to the office and prepare and email a written estimate reflecting the items discussed during our meeting. There is a fee of $150 for a consultation that is refundable upon signing a contract to preform work.

What does design/build mean?

Green Hill Landscaping is equipped to design your project as well as build it. We have a landscape designer on staff that can prepare and present plans in order to give you an idea of the finished product and cost prior to starting construction. This is recommended especially if the scope of work you are considering is on the scale of a Master Plan (front and back yard work). Green Hill, then, can take that plan and build it. There is a cost for design plans based on the size and scope of your project. Plans generally start at $1o00 and can go to $2500.

Do you perform property maintenance?

Green Hill Landscaping does not perform general property maintenance. We are a contracting company. Specifically for water features, we recommend Platinum Ponds for Maintenance. Visit them at www.platinumponds.com.

What is a Master CAC?

CAC stands for Certified Aquascape Contractor. Certified Aquascape Contractors (CACs) are the most qualified and informed pond installers in the water gardening industry. All CACs are trained and educated to install beautiful low-maintenance water features using a time-tested methodology. They also provide quality workmanship, outstanding customer service, and knowledgeable assistance to their customers and each other. The Master CAC is the top tier of the program. This is achieved by attaining a benchmark of ponds built which translates to the customer as knowledge and experience.

How long do we have to wait to get our project started once we sign a contract?

Green Hill Landscaping operates on a first come, first serve basis. We schedule our customers based on an experienced approximation of time required per project. What we cannot schedule is rain- which is the main reason for schedules being thrown off. On the average, we are generally booked out two months at any given time.

How long does it take to build a pond?

Most average size ponds (10′ x 15′) can be built in a few days. If the pond is large or has a long stream/waterfall, it will take a little longer. We will let you know at the time of the estimate approximately how long the build should take.

Do you prepare designs for customers that have their own contractor?

Yes. In addition to designing and building, we can design for other builders or build for other designers.

Do you work outside of Greenville?

Yes. We have built many projects in Seneca, Spartanburg, and as far north as Asheville NC. Let us know where you are!

Do you work on weekends?

We work Monday through Friday sun up to sun down. On occasion we will work on a Saturday if there is a hard deadline, however it is not part of our normal schedule.

Do you work year round?

Yes. We build projects all year round. We work in the cold, the heat, and even in light rain. If the ground is unusually frozen or wet from excessive rain, we will wait until more favorable conditions to proceed.

Do you design and install swimming pools?

We do not install swimming pools but work closely with a pool contractor.
